Notes from the Nurse
All 5th and
7th grade students: New York State Law requires all 5th and 7th graders and new entrants to have a physical examination by a New York State licensed physician. The physical must be completed within one year of the start of the upcoming school year. The physical may be performed by your family physician or by the school physician. Please have the doctor complete the physical on the required
NYS physical form. (click link to
access).
The physical must include height, weight, blood pressure, vision, hearing and scoliosis screening. **If vision and hearing is not completed by your private MD, the school nurse will complete the screening**
The school physician will be conducting physicals at ENMS on Thursday, October 24th and other times throughout the year. If I have not received a completed physical form for your student or have not heard from you, I will schedule your child for a school physical.
Early winter sports for
7th and 8th graders - (Boys’ basketball, Girls’
Volleyball and Cheer) will begin on Monday, November 4th. Signups will be ONLINE through
Family
ID, (click link to access), beginning October 7th and will close on
October 30th. Information will also be on the ENMS
Homepage. Please register for only one
sport. The school physician will be
conducting physicals at ENMS on Thursday, October 24th. If your child would like to participate in a
late winter sport and needs a physical by
the school physician, please let me
know by October 22nd so I can schedule them to see the school
physician on October 24th.
Students may not carry any medication on them that is not approved by me. Please do not send Tylenol, Motrin, inhalers or
any other over the counter or prescription medication in with your child. If
your child needs medication during the school day, please contact me for the
appropriate forms to be completed by your child’s doctor. (Forms
can also be found on ENMS Homepage under Nurse’s Corner.)
All medication must be brought to the health
office by a parent. Students are not to carry any medication to school at any time.
If your child is not feeling well- Please check your child’s temperature if they are not feeling well.
The CDC and the New York State Department of Health recommend that
students and staff remain out of
school for at least 24 hours after having a fever. Also note that students should be fever-free
for 24hrs WITHOUT the use of
fever-reducing medication such as Tylenol and Motrin. The teachers and staff
here at ENMS are working together to remind the students to wash their hands
and to cover coughs and sneezes. Please report any diagnosed illnesses to me.
Thank you for your cooperation in our attempt to keep our school a healthy,
learning environment.
If you have any questions, please feel
free to call me.
Thank You,
Rita Enright, R.N.
