On May 9, the East Northport Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society held its second annual Walk-A-Thon to support the ALS Ride 4 Life.

Over 130 NJHS students walked as many laps as they could in 30 minutes to raise money in support of ALS research. The girls softball team, boys baseball team, boys and girls lacrosse team, boys tennis team, boys and girls track team, the community service club, and a group of fifth grade students also came out to walk and show their support.

This year’s walk was especially meaningful for the NJHS advisers, Ms. Hehir and Ms. Lange, and SHARE adviser, John Braun, as fellow science teacher Grecthen Manzo lost her battle with ALS on March 19.

Congratulations to two teams within Northport Middle School’s Investing Club who placed first and third in the annual Spring Stock Market Game competition.

The competition included students across Long Island who had roughly eight weeks to learn the intricacies of the stock market and eventually put their knowledge to the test by making informed investment decisions starting with $100,000 of virtual currency. The team with the greatest returns at the end of the competition wins. This year, the championship banner came home to Northport!

For those interested in the stock market, NFTs and even cryptocurrency, the Investing Club is open both at NMS and ENMS. Please contact club adviser Mr. Goodwin at christopher.goodwin@northport.k12.ny.us if interested.
