Dr. Moyer's Bio

Dr. Dave Moyer began his tenure as the superintendent for the Northport-East Northport UFSD on January 1, 2024. Dr. Moyer is beginning his 26th year as a public school administrator and 15th as a superintendent. Previously, he has served districts as an athletic director, assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent.

Dr. Moyer is known as an innovative systems leader. He was named an Illinois Superintendent of Distinction in 2015.  That year his then-district, Moline-Coal Valley, was named a District of Distinction by District Administration magazine.  While serving as superintendent in Elmhurst, IL, the district was named the top district in the state for Whole Child Education by the Illinois Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development in 2019, an AP National District of Distinction and earned Financial Recognition status, the highest designation by the Illinois State Board of Education for five consecutive years.

He has led major community engagement efforts that have resulted in program improvements such as Professional Learning Communities, Portrait of a Graduate, full-day kindergarten, two-way dual language Spanish immersion, increased access to rigorous coursework for economically disadvantaged students and students of color, 1:1 instruction, instructional coaching programs, interdisciplinary coursework, structured Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and standards-based report cards. 

Dr. Moyer has led innovative programming while balancing budgets. Additionally, his commitment to comprehensive community engagement were instrumental in successful referenda and long- range plans that resulted in successful referenda and long-range plans that have led to significant facilities upgrades, including the construction of three new schools, and a total of $366M in major renovations infrastructure investments.

Dr. Moyer has presented at many national and state conferences, including the National Conference on Education and the New York State Council of School Superintendents Fall Leadership Summit. This past June, a team from Northport-East Northport presented at the Future-Focused School Conference in Washington, D.C., on the district’s commitment to service-learning opportunities for students. Dr. Moyer has been published in various American Association of School Administrators publications, and regularly reviews books for its monthly magazine, School Administrator.

Dr. Moyer earned his Doctorate in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University. He earned a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois and a Master of Science degree in Sports Administration from Eastern Kentucky University.  He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Wisconsin, where he majored in English, minored in coaching, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education. Dr. Moyer began his career as a middle school English teacher and baseball coach, leading Sheboygan (WI) North High School to the State Summer title in 1989.  He then spent a decade as a college baseball coach before pursuing a career in school leadership.  A former drummer, Dr. Moyer has seen Bob Dylan perform live 53 times. Dr. Moyer is a Paul Harris Rotary Fellow. He and his wife, Donna, are the parents of five adult children and reside locally with their husky, Juliet.
