Sex Offender Notifications

Revisions to the New York State Corrections Law have expanded the availability of sex offender information. This legislation has increased the amount of information available to the public regarding registered sex offenders.

Law Enforcement agencies can now provide community notifications regarding level 1 offenders. Information that now can be provided by law enforcement on level 1 offenders includes name, photograph, residence zip code, offense description and special probation or parole conditions.

Level 2 sex offenders are now included in the Sex Offender Subdirectory on the Division of Criminal Justice Services public website, http://www.criminaljustice.ny.gov/nsor/ in addition to level 3 offenders who have been listed in the website's subdirectory since 2000. The exact residence address of level 2 offenders and employment addresses (if available) will be listed.

Information provided by the Suffolk County Police Department about Level I offenders can be found in the files section below.

The information can also be reviewed at the District Clerk’s Office, 158 Laurel Avenue, Room A109, Northport, NY 11768 during regular business hours and/or by filing a Freedom of Information Law Request with the District Clerk, Beth Nystrom, 158 Laurel Avenue, Room A109, Northport, NY 11768 or beth.nystrom@northport.k12.ny.us.   The information about the sex offender must be used in accordance with the law and cannot be used to engage in discrimination or harassment

According to the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Service the Courts can assign one of the three risk levels:

  • Level 1 (low risk of repeat offense), or
  • Level 2 (moderate risk of repeat offense), or
  • Level 3 (high risk of repeat offense and a threat to public safety exists).

Please be advised that in order to minimize the possibility that the sex offender will come into contact with school-age children, appropriate detailed information regarding the above-listed notification from law enforcement is provided to appropriate School District personnel at each building.
